Amy Watson Wins World Championships
At just 13 years of age, Amy Watson from Dean Park NSW has become the youngest indoor skydiving World Champion, taking out gold in the Junior Freestyle at the 3rd FAI Indoor Skydiving World Championships in Lille, France, in April 2019.
Amy started flying as a sport when she was 9 years old after her birthday party at iFLY Downunder in Sydney’s west. Since then she’s competed in a host of national and international events and now has a number of achievements and titles to her name.
“Training varies a lot depending if I am training for an upcoming competition, if so then the training really intensifies; for example I did 20 hours in February in 3 different tunnels, Sydney, Paris and Belgium as my new coach lives in France.” says Watson.
“There is now a new bid for it to be included in the 2028 Olympics in America, so I would love to represent my country in the Olympics and I would also like to inspire other young people into this sport.” continues Watson.
Amy’s next competition will be the 2019 Australian Open Indoor Skydiving Championships at iFLY Downunder on 23rd & 24th August.
